Students in my past algebra classes have informed me that the textbooks do not have enough examples and lack detail. (I don’t want to go into the details of this, but it’s mainly to reduce the cost of the book). I am currently working on an example book just for ALGEBRA. The purpose of this book is to provide a variety of examples for students. I do plan on marketing this book for teachers, students as well home-schoolers. There will be detailed examples at different degrees of difficulty. It will also contain practice problems, with the solutions online.
In addition, a few of the examples will require thought process, and will not be found in any other textbooks. It will also contain real life application problems that use algebra, unlike those train problems. This will give students an interesting perspective on algebra.
I realize there are some books out there such as Schaum’s outlines, but they usually only contain simple examples that you can find in any math book.
I am not recommending students learn algebra from this book. It should not be mistaken for a textbook, but rather an example book to be used along with the required textbook.
I would like to hear from some of you and what you think. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you,
~LazyEight
PS: Do you prefer an e-book or just the usual type of book ?
I have always found the best way to learn math is by seeing examples. So I think this has a good concept. However, I expect my teacher to give enough examples in the lecture so that we are able to complete the homework. Everything also seems easier to learn when it is being explained to you rather than just on a piece of paper. So I would find the book somewhat unnecessary if the teacher gave the class enough examples.
I view learning as being taught by a teacher, the textbook is only there for homework and review. So therefore the examples in the textbook don’t need to be too thorough.
And if you do go for it, go for the book because it is always distracting to be on the computer while doing homework.
First off I listen to drex in the morning 103.5 I love it! Anyway, a lady listener emailed the dj this topic. She was wondering if people that have std’s like herpes should be in a job market handling food.
Her experience was that one day on her way to work she stopped a local coffee shop for some expresso. Anyway, the guy who took her ordered had what she claimed to be herpetic lesions all over his mouth. The lady was so grossed out she did not order anything. She came up with the solution that when a worker has noticeable lesions they should not be allowed to be in the front part of an establishment. What do you think?
According to Washington State University Cooperative Extension Service, herpes cannot be spread or contaminate food, and it cannot cause a foodborne illness. However, an employee who has a visable outbreak of lesions probably should not be in an area of the business that is visable to the public. The business owner should use some common sense and have the employee do something else until the lesions heal. Think about it - would you want someone with a severe head cold making your sub sandwich while their nose is running and they are sneezing uncontrollably? Neither would I. This is simply a case of a business owner not paying attention to important details. Remember what they say about first impressions.
I have a client who is based in Dubai, UAE. Their market is the UK. However their bank is based in dubai they would like a virtual terminal to take payments through? Anyone have any ideas does not have to be a virtual terminal it can be an online shopping cart but none of the big boys offer anything for Dubai (PayPal, World Pay, Authorize.net etc don’t offer a solution)
Google Checkout only serves the US and Canada now I believe. I would look into some international merchant accounts, I know PayPal doesn’t have many options outside of the casual user or US Business Owner.
But an international merchant account is normally a good way to accept credit cards, checks, and etc. with a Payment Gateway/Terminal setup. The fee’s are normally very reasonable and it still only takes 24-48 hours to setup for most people.
A google search will probably give some options, I use http://www.prosperms.com/ But I don’t know if they provide any international accounts.
PS. Totally forgot to mention that MoneyBookers has international options and is basically a PayPal option for people looking to serve an international market in a more efficient way.
